Tug-of-War competitionDo you have a team to pull the reigning Mirfield Show Tug-of-War champions out of the ring ? The Mirfield Show Tug-of-War Competition is one of the most popular spectator competitions on show day and attracts participants from all across Yorkshire. The main ring event usually starts around 1.30pm with the heats and finishes about 4pm after the final.

All tug-of-war entries registrations must be made by Online Registration Form before 15th August 2017 – and may be sooner if fully booked. There may be space available on show day for your team, but there is no guarantee if four teams have already subscribed in advance. It is free to enter for all adults and children. Teams which register in advance will receive 8 free guest passes to show. Adult team members must be 18 or over and must sign the Liability Waiver/ Medical Treatment Consent after they have read and agreed to the terms – which must be presented to the Information Point by 1pm.

Mirfield Family Agricultural Show is unique in the Yorkshire county show calendar of events because as well as having a strong agricultural heritage, it encourages children to get involved to make it a fantastic family day out.

Tug-of-War Competition Rules 2017

1) Teams must register their interest by 15th August 2017 by online registration form – but there may be space to register on the day. 2) There will be a maximum of four teams – and each team will have eight members, plus one coach if desired. 3) Teams must congregate by the Information Point 15 minutes before their heats. 4) Lots will be drawn to establish which teams will pull against each other in the first round. 5) Gloves can be worn, but spiked shoes are forbidden. 6) Prior to beginning the pull, the judge will order teams to “pick up the rope” – then the judge will ask if they are ready and give the command to “take the strain” – at this point the team members may heel in and the rope will become tight. When teams are balanced, and centred over the starting mark, the judge’s order to “pull” is given. 7) The team that wins 2 of 3 pulls will win the match, in a single elimination competition. 8) Adult team members must be 18 or over and must sign the Liability Waiver/ Medical Treatment Consent after they have read and agreed to the terms – which must be presented to the Information Point by 1pm. 9) Children wishing to enter the childrens tug-of-war must register at the Information Point with a parent from 10.30am – there will only be sixteen child places available.
