Mirfield Family Agricultural Shows Tug of War event starts mid-afternoon and concludes at 4.30pm and has become more successful each year, with teams entering from all across yorkshire.
Do you have a team to pull the reigning Mirfield Show Tug of War champions out of the ring ? Well if you do, complete the attached entry form either send it to us before show day, or bring it along on the day. Unfortunately due to demand, entries will be limited to the eight strongest entries received before show day.
Previous winners have included Richard Haighs Farm Shop team, and last year the tug-of-war final was contested between Bradfield Brewery from Sheffield and Alan Chappelows Misfits from Mirfield.
So download the Mirfield Show Tug of War Entry Form - and see if you can reign supreme this year.
All those who apply before 15th August will be allocated one of the eight slots on the day - and if we have any remaining spaces we will ramdomly pick teams from the latter entrants to complete the eight.
Mirfield Family Agricultural Show is unique in the Yorkshire calendar of events because as well as having a strong agricultural heritage, it is encouraged children to get involved, and make it a fantatstic family day out.
This year′s tug-of-war competition is yet to be sponsored.
Tug of War Rules:
1. Teams must register their interest by 15th August 2011 by e-mail to classes-and-competitions@mirfieldshow.com. 2. There will be a maximum of 8 teams – and each team will have 8 members, plus one coach if desired. 3. Gloves can be worn, but spiked shoes are forbidden. 4. Teams will be in place and ready to pull by 1.30pm on the day. 5. Lots will be drawn to establish which teams will pull against each other in the first round. 6. Prior to beginning the pull, the judge will order teams to “pick up the rope” - then the judge will ask if they are ready and give the command to “take the strain” - at this point the team members may heel in and the rope will become tight. When teams are balanced, and centered over the starting mark, the judge’s order to “pull” is given. 7. The team that wins 2 of 3 pulls will win the match, in a single elimination competition. 8. Team members must be 18 or over and must sign the Liability Waiver Medical Treatment Consent after they have read and agreed to the terms.
