What’s On – Main Ring Attractions
Guest Opener
This year we are please to announce that Andy Booth – ex-player and ambassador for Huddersfield Town – will be formally opening the show at 12pm in the main ring. If possible, we will try to arrange time for photographs straight afterwards. [Don’t forget that show day starts with the horse show from 8.30am, and all stalls and attractions are open from 10.30am].
Kangaroo Gymnastics Display Team
Brand new for this year is the Kangaroo Gymnastics Display Team who have appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, and will perform two displays from 1.30pm in the main ring. The first display consists of a series of seven increasingly difficult and more spectacular moves with over 250 somersaults including many doubles, and if conditions are right, some triple somersaults, which are not performed by any other team in England. This will include multiple somersaults over a car and the final ‘Big Move’ which is the longest, highest and most spectacular Vaulting move performed possibly anywhere in the world. The second display is based on a classic Victorian theme, and includes a ‘Gentleman’, two Cricketers, a Robber and a Policeman, who are all involved eventually in a classic chase.
Royal Artillery Parachute Display Team
Also new this year, the Royal Artillery Parachute Team will be dropping into the main ring (or school grounds) from 12.10pm, to wow the crowds with their amazing display. Gnr Rebecca Bull – the display co-ordinator - said: “There will be four or five serving soldiers parachuting into the arena. It will be visible from miles around, but those attending the show will be able to get the full commentary, display and landings – and meet the soldiers close up.”
Mirfield Town Crier Finals
A competition to find a town crier to represent Mirfield takes place at the show – and all those wishing to be considered for the post will be required to present themselves at the show and demonstrate why they should be the town's new town crier by taking their turn in the main arena and calling out an announcement. Principal judge will be Dewsbury's awarding-winning Town Crier, Laurie Gilbert. A decibel recorder will also be used and the audience will be asked to signify their approval of the respective candidates. The winner will be provided with a full outfit including a tricorn hat and a bell by the Saville Arms Pub, and at Christmas will be presented with a pin of ale - about 35 pints - and a pin of pickled onions from the Old Colonial Club, and a turkey from Ramsden's Butchers.
