Challenging Times Ahead...
Mirfield Family Agricultural Show will be held this year on Sunday 22nd August, but it is facing challenging times ahead unless new people come on board. Since it began the show has grown in size and draws in crowds from all across the county, becoming one of the most popular family agricultural shows in Yorkshire - however, now the few members remaining are finding it more and more difficult to put the show on.
"Last year was such a strong year, helped by the weather, but we're just missing the manpower" said Karen Bullivant, show chairman. "We are putting on more and more attractions and we are in danger of spreading ourselves too thinly. Also, we are getting older and can't do as much." she warned. "We're looking for new blood and younger people to get involved to continue to inject new life into the show and build for the years to come."
"People are not as willing, or don’t have the time, to help voluntary causes as their parents or grandparents might have been, but Mirfield has a great community spirit, full of enterprising people who have fresh ideas and loads of energy."
"I can assure people that we are not a boring and stuffy committee - we are a team that brings people together from different sections and interests, and it is a great place to meet a wide variety of people and be part of a key event in the Mirfield calendar."
Because of this, we are holding a special meeting on Wednesday 10th March 2010 at 7.00pm at Old Bank Club, Mirfield to welcome potential new interested organisations and individuals.
Nobody will be thrown in at the deep end (unless they wish), and there are roles to fit most peoples interests - so to get the most out of their skills, whilst doing something they enjoy. There are roles for everyone, from well-organised administrators, to programme designers, from event organisers to publicity generators, from stewarding the domestic, fruit and flower exhbits, to actual physical manpower - and much more.
Anyone interested in finding out more should come along to the meeting or e-mail us at info@mirfieldshow.com.
