PRESS RELEASE - 30th JULY 2010
For those more green fingered, this year there are forty-two different Flower and Vegetable Classes to enter, including the three children’s classes and four classes for novices. Paul Vine, section organiser said “We always have a great turn out and I expect this year to be no different. The only sad news was the loss of Mr Ken Hey late last year who was a past committee member and keen entrant, and in his memory we have added the Ken Hey Memorial Trophy for most points in dahlia classes.”

There will also be twenty-five Adult Classes (including baking, handicrafts, wines ) and fifteen Children’s Classes (including pre-school, 5 to10’s and 11 to 16’s this year) – and the ever popular children’s colouring competition. Again, we have three new trophies – donated by Julie Dedman – in memory of her mother, Betty Taylor, who died earlier this year, and was a show founder and active committee member. These will be for the Best Scone, the Men Only Class, and for the Most Domestic Show Points.

It also wouldn’t be Mirfield Show without the Horse and Pony Show which starts at 8.30am with seven classes, the larger-than-ever Fun Dog Show which starts at 1pm with ten classes, and the ‘Best in Show’ competitions for rabbits and cavies – so there is a class out there for almost everyone.

The Mirfield Show Tug of War Trophy has also become a key part of the day with The Misfits defeating previous-holders Haigh's farm shop time. Anyone wishing to enter a team are advised to register before the day as only eight teams can compete, and interest is always very high.

New this year will be the children’s Fancy Dress Competition to be held at 12.40pm in the main ring, and judged by out guest opener with prizes for all entrants. Plus this year, the Baby Show will be bigger with more classes and prizes for the winners. And don’t forget to start thinking of ideas for the Scarecrow Competition – just fill in an entry form, or contact Sylvia Ford on 01924 499902, by Friday 13th August, and then use your imagination.

A full list of all schedules and entry forms can be picked up from Mirfield Library, Ramsden’s Butchers, or can be downloaded from the website – along with details of the tug-of-war, colouring, scarecrow, fancy dress and baby show competitions. Or contact info@mirfieldshow.com for more details.

And finally, tickets are now on sale from Ramsden’s Butchers, and we will be selling them in advance outside Mirfield Co-op on Friday 13th. Saturday 14th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st August.  The cost is £2.50 per person before the day, £3.00 on the day, but children will continue to enjoy the show for free. Programmes will be available on the day.
